Member Engagement Opportunity: Team Grant from the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases

To our Collaborative Centre members: We see the Team Grant 2026 from the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) as an important opportunity for members of our network to lead a competitive bid. As such, we would be happy to convene timely meetings to help teams emerge or coordinate their efforts and – as appropriate – identify opportunities for the Collaborative Centre to partner in relevant elements of a successful team grant application. See below for more details on the funding announcement.

About: The Team Grant – GACD 2026: Implementation Science to tackle Non‑Communicable Diseases (NCDs): Maximizing collaboration and coordination with and beyond the healthcare system is a funding opportunity led by the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD), in partnership with CIHR’s Institute of Population and Public Health (IPPH) and the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH). 

IPPH Funds & Research Area: $2M is available from CIHR-IPPH to fund 2 applications relevant to the IPPH mission and mandate and focused on NCD prevention and health promotion outside the formal healthcare sector (IPPH pool). 

Context: Global recognition of the social and structural determinants of NCDs points to opportunities to prevent and manage chronic diseases by leveraging settings and sectors both within and beyond the formal healthcare system. Addressing NCDs will require partnerships with communities and non‑government sectors-including NGOs, civil society, foundations, community enterprises, and faith‑based organizations – to support innovative ways of delivering resources and care. 

These partnerships can strengthen engagement of underserved populations who may face inequities related to access, beliefs, attitudes, geography, language, or other factors. The call will fund implementation research focused on strategies leveraging these broader opportunities in low‑ and middle‑income countries (LMICs) and/or underserved populations in high‑income countries (HICs), including Indigenous populations.  

Objectives: The GACD Team Grants will:  

  • Contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goal 3.4 to reduce premature mortality from NCDs by one‑third by 2030; 
  • Address implementation of cross‑sectoral strategies that provide evidence and recommendations to national programs and policies; 
  • Inform policy and practice to address the growing burden of chronic NCDs; 
  • Expand accessibility of programs addressing NCDs; 
  • Promote early prevention, risk reduction, timely diagnosis, and continuity of care-from prevention to screening to community‑based management. 

Anticipated timeline:  

  • Launch: March 2026 
  • Stage 1 Deadline: June 2026 
  • Stage 2 Deadline: Late October/Early November 2026 
  • Funding Start Date: January 2027
