Last week, the Collaborative Centre co-hosted “Preparing Toronto’s Healthcare for Extreme Heat”, a workshop focused on strengthening healthcare preparedness for extreme heat events across the Toronto region.
Organized with CAMH and the Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) Sustainable Health System Community of Practice, the gathering brought healthcare leaders, clinicians, government, public health professionals, researchers, and community partners to clarify healthcare’s role in extreme heat preparedness. Together, teams mapped current activities, identified gaps, and needed resources to build a more resilient health system.
Building on an emerging partnership among hospitals, the University of Toronto, community organizations, and city partners, participants shared their knowledge and expertise, and helped shape the next steps to address the challenges that climate change poses for health and health systems. Insights gathered during the workshop will inform a forthcoming report and support the development of a collaborative strategy to improve climate resilience in the Toronto region.
