2026 Climate & Health Awards
The Collaborative Centre for Climate, Health & Sustainable Care is inviting nominations for our 2026 Climate & Health Awards, due by July 10, 2026. The Collaborative Centre annually recognizes outstanding and innovative work in our network through the Climate & Health Awards. The 2026 Awards will be presented at our 2026 Climate & Health Conference on October 23, 2026.
Awards for Nomination
We invite nominations for the following awards:
- Early Career Academic Excellence: Open to UofT faculty within the first five years of their first academic appointment.
- Innovation in Education: Open to UofT faculty at any career stage who have integrated climate change and health and/or planetary health into their teaching.
- Student & Trainee Excellence in Research: Open to all UofT/TAHSN students and trainees.
- Student Leadership & Innovation: Open to all UofT students and trainees (can be individual or group).
- Excellence in Policy & Practice Change: Open to individuals/groups affiliated with UofT or the Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) and their affiliates (Family Health Teams, Ontario Health Teams, and related public health & care partners). The individual (or lead, if a group) should be eligible for Collaborative Centre membership.**
- Best in TAHSN Organizational Innovation: Open to Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) healthcare organizations. The individual (or lead, if a group) should be eligible for Collaborative Centre membership.**
*TAHSN organizations are welcome to submit initiatives also reported in the 2026 TAHSN Sustainability Balanced Scorecard.

Conference Award (no nomination required)
The following award is open to any qualified university students and does not require nomination:
Outstanding Student Poster/Presentation*:
- Open to all students and trainees whose first-authored work is accepted for oral presentation or poster at the Collaborative Centre’s 2026 Climate & Health Conference.
*All accepted student presenters will automatically be considered for this award and do not need to complete the nomination process detailed below for the other awards.
Award Winners
The recipient of each award will receive
- A certificate and recognition on the Collaborative Centre website
- Membership in the Collaborative Centre (if eligible)
- An invitation to list their work in our member initiatives directory and/or present in the Climate & Health Seminar Series, as appropriate
Student award recipients will also receive
- An honorarium of $500
The nominated individual/group demonstrates:
- Work relevant to award category and to climate change and health, sustainability, and/or planetary health
- Leadership, innovation, and/or originality
- Quality/excellence
- Potential or demonstrated impact
- Call for nominations opens: March 26
- Nominations due: July 10
- Notification to award winners: July/August
- Awards announced at 2026 Climate & Health Conference: October 23

Early Career Academic Excellence: Dr. Sarah Elton
This award is in recognition of outstanding contributions at the intersection of food systems and the more-than-human world. Dr. Elton is expanding our understanding of health in a changing climate, with the potential to shape the future of her field.

Temerty Foundation Awards in Climate, Health and Sustainable Care
These student awards were made possible due to generous support for students and trainees from the Temerty Foundation.
Student Excellence in Research: Lola Oyefeso, MSc Candidate, Institute of Medical Science, Temerty Faculty of Medicine
This award is in recognition of her original thesis research on the equity and sustainability implications of AI models, with plans to quantify the carbon footprint of AI-enabled digital health interventions
Student Leadership & Innovation: Muhammad Anas Ansar, MHSc in Translational Research Candidate, Temerty Faculty of Medicine
This award is in recognition of his leadership in advancing youth engagement on climate and environmental health as co-founder and Executive Director of Human Nature Projects (HNP) Canada
