Dr. Gillian Parker (MA, PhD) is an Assistant Professor in Health Services Research at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, Researcher at the Collaborative Centre for Climate, Health & Sustainable Care and the Program Coordinator for the Climate, Health & Sustainable Care Student Training Program.
Dr. Parker’s research interests include health systems, health policy, regulation & governance; sustainable health systems and healthcare; health technology environmental impacts & regulation; de-implementation & reducing low-value care; and interdisciplinary student training and competency development. At the Collaborative Centre Gillian’s work involves developing and leading an interdisciplinary, evidence-informed research agenda to advance climate resilience and sustainability in the health sector. Her current research leverages a systems approach and focuses on reducing the environmental harms of health technologies, particularly the pharmaceutical industry and pharmaceutical products. Her research also focuses on improving the sustainability of health systems through realizing the co-benefits of environmental sustainability and reducing low-value care. In the pursuit of developing effective interdisciplinary researchers to address environmental sustainability challenges in the health sector, Dr. Parker works on developing and delivering interdisciplinary student training and competency development.
She holds an MA in the Sociology of Health and Illness from York University, and a PhD in Health Services Research from the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Previously, Gillian held a Postdoctoral Fellowship at IHPME and was awarded a CIHR Health Systems Impact Fellowship with North York General Hospital.
