Daniel is a staff psychiatrist and Clinician Investigator at the University Health Network (UHN), where he works with the IMPACT Assertive Community Treatment team. He is also the psychiatrist with the Palliative Education and Care for the Homeless (PEACH) team through Inner City Health Associates. Daniel is a clinical lecturer at the University of Toronto. He is a co-founder and faculty member with the UHN Psychedelic Psychotherapy Research Group (PPRG), where he is co-Principal Investigator with the Psilocybin-assisted Existential, Attachment, and RelationaL (PEARL) therapy research program, which aims to support patients and families facing advanced disease, death, and bereavement. Daniel is the co-author of the Canadian Psychiatric Association’s 2023 position statement entitled “Mental Health and the Climate Crisis: A Call to Action for Canadian Psychiatrists.” He has taught psychiatry residents and given talks to public audiences about the relationships between the climate crisis and mental health. As of summer 2024, he is involved in several projects in this field, including an educational intervention for frontline community health workers and housing providers that aims to bolster resilience and prevent heat-related illness and death among people with Severe & Persistent Mental Illness. He is also working with the BC-based Mental Health and Climate Change Alliance as well as Toronto-based researchers to develop and pilot a pan-Canadian Mental Health and Climate Change Innovation Lab, which aims to improve the quality, scalability, and relevance of mental health adaptation strategies, reduce duplication of such efforts, and promote partnerships between research and community members.
