Jay Shaw is the Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Responsible Health Innovation and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at University of Toronto. Jay has a cross-appointment to the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation where he supervises research-focused graduate students. He serves as Research Director of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Ethics & Health at the University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics, and is adjunct Scientist at the Women’s College Hospital Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care.

Jay’s research has focused on the ethical and social implications of innovation in health care, and he is now adopting a substantive focus on two dimensions related to climate sustainability. First, he is interested in building projects related to climate resilience and health equity among urban communities, drawing on community-based research approaches. Second, he is interested in policy and governance of AI and other digital technologies for health that seek to minimize or otherwise address climate impacts.
