CALL FOR PAPERS: Addressing the Ecosocial and Structural Determinants of Health in a Rapidly Changing World
International Journal of Social Determinants of Health and Health Services
The International Journal of Social Determinants of Health and Health Services (IJSDOHS), a Q1 Sage Journal, is seeking contributions from the social sciences, humanities, health and natural sciences and beyond, which critically engage with the concept of planetary health, particularly by exploring the complexities and structural, systemic challenges involved in achieving health equity within a rapidly changing global landscape. We welcome original research articles, reviews, theoretical analyses, and case studies in areas such as:
- The ecosocial determinants of health and their implications for public health policies;
- Global and environmental justice;
- The health impacts of climate change, including extreme weather events, food and water insecurity, and vector-borne diseases;
- The political economy and political ecology of health, with a focus on power structures and systemic inequalities;
- The ecological footprint of health systems, infrastructures, and supply chains;
- The role of indigenous knowledge and community-led responses in fostering sustainable health interventions and tackling environmental injustices;
- The social and ecological dimensions of planetary health, including the impacts of neoliberal policies on public health, and alternative ecosocial frameworks for building more equal and healthy societies.
Given the complexity of these issues, we particularly encourage transdisciplinary research that transcends traditional academic disciplines and sectors in order to build a more systemic and nuanced understanding of planetary health. Such a transdisciplinary approach to knowledge is necessary in order to inform intersectoral policies that are capable of responding to these multifaceted and existential challenges to both human and non-human life. Submissions that employ systemic approaches, integrate knowledge across multiple fields, and propose innovative frameworks for addressing planetary health concerns will be prioritized.
