Canada Research Chair in Health Justice

Dr. Nav Persaud has dedicated his career to narrowing the health gap between the highest and lowest wealth brackets, and to ensuring that everyone in Canada can afford the medication that they need. Dr. Persaud is a Canada Research Chair in Health Justice. He is leading the first-ever trial providing people with free access to essential medicines – quantifying the links between medication cost and health outcomes, and bringing to light the unfair choices that millions of Canadians are forced to make about their health. He is also the Chair of the Government of Canada’s Committee of Experts to make recommendations on National Pharmacare. Dr. Persaud is a scientist with MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions in the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s Hospital. He is a staff physician in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital, and an associate professor in the University of Toronto’s Department of Family and Community Medicine. Dr. Persaud was named one of Canada’s Top 40 under 40 in 2017.
