Max Silverman

Student Training Program 2025/2026

Max Silverman is currently a second-year Internal Medicine resident at the University of Toronto. He completed his medical training at McMaster University, where his dedication to patient care grew alongside a deep interest in environmental sustainability.

Max believes that every major organization has a responsibility to contribute to climate solutions, and that healthcare, given its notable environmental impact and central role in human well-being, should be at the forefront. He is particularly motivated by the current and future health impacts of climate change on patients, and the urgent need for the health sector to adapt.

His previous work includes leadership roles with the Ontario Medical Association’s Green is Health Medical Interest Group, where he contributes to advocacy and awareness campaigns aimed at promoting sustainable practices in medicine. He has also been involved in medical education efforts focused on the climate-health connection, aiming to better prepare future healthcare professionals to respond to the challenges of a warming planet.

Currently, Max is focused on applying quality improvement methodologies to reduce the carbon footprint of hospital operations. He hopes to help embed environmentally sustainable practices into everyday healthcare delivery, supporting a shift in the sector from being part of the problem to becoming a key part of the solution. Through this fellowship, he looks forward to collaborating with peers, researchers, and health system leaders who share a vision of a climate-resilient, sustainable healthcare system that protects both human and planetary health.
