Shannan’s professional and academic work is anchored in a commitment to climate adaptation and environmental sustainability in healthcare, with particular attention to the resilience of acute care facilities and regional health systems. She is engaged in advancing low-carbon, climate-resilient models of care and integrating climate risk, continuity of operations, and decarbonization goals into strategic disaster planning and emergency management. Drawing on organizational resilience frameworks and an industrial-organizational psychology mindset, Shannan is interested in how healthcare institutions can redesign infrastructure, workflows, and decision-making to respond to escalating climate-related hazards while improving quality and equity of care.
