As a recipient of the prestigious McCall MacBain Regional Award, Canada-Graduate Scholarship-Masters (CGS-M) and UofT’s 2026 Leadership Award, Muhammad is a celebrated social innovator, community leader and graduate student within the Temerty Faculty of Medicine whose work focuses on the intersection of climate and health. As part of UofT’s Collaborative Centre for Climate, Health & Sustainable Care, his research examines gender roles in climate action and the relationship between climate-related events and social supports in older adults. Outside of academics, he is very passionate about increasing environmental literacy and serves as the Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director at Human Nature Projects (HNP) Canada, a federally-incorporated, youth-led, volunteer-driver, not-for-profit organization that has engaged 10,000+ youth globally in environmental action since 2020. His work, recognized at municipal, provincial, and national levels, reflects a deep commitment to creating accessible, inclusive systems and inspiring meaningful change across generations and sectors.
